Power Hour: Reflections of Reality: Accurately Showcase Diversity in Your District Through a Lens of Equity and Inclusion
September 15, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free“A picture tells a 1000 words,” but is it telling the real story of your school community? As our communities become more diverse, how do you ensure that the information you share and the stories you tell truly reflect those you serve, internally and externally? Do students, staff and families see themselves reflected in images, videos, publications and messaging? Interweaving knowledge and awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion in our day-to-day work is no longer an option; it is essential to our success as public school systems. Learn how to use equity and inclusion lenses to build meaningful, respectful relationships and accurately showcase and celebrate the diversity in your schools.
Panelists: Lesley Bruinton, APR, public relations coordinator, Tuscaloosa (Ala.) City Schools, and Carla Pereira, APR, director of communications & community relations, Peel District School Board, Mississauga, Ont.
Moderator: Stephen Nichols, APR, education management consultant, Sacramento, Calif. and NSPRA vice president of diversity engagement
