Power Hour: “My Name Is….”: Gender Sensitivity and Inclusiveness, the Next Communication Challenge for Schools

December 11, 2015 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

NSPRA’s PR Power Hours offer an economical and convenient way to continue your professional development. These programs provide you with a conversational and interactive forum for learning best practices from top experts in school communication.

Topic

Once a “shadow” topic that was rarely discussed in public venues, never mind in public schools, the challenges faced by transgender students, staff members, and their families are now front and center in the media and in our schools. Communicating about gender sensitivity and promoting inclusiveness requires knowledge, understanding and empathy as well as an ability to educate audiences and build support systems that welcome everyone. Hear from colleagues who are engaged in this important work so that you are prepared when your district faces this emerging social challenge.

Panelists: Trent Allen, APR, senior director, community relations, San Juan Unified School District, Carmichael, Calif., and Andrea Pidwerbecki, communications manager, Durham District School Board, Whitby, Ont.

Moderator: Tom DeLapp, president, Communication Resources for Schools, Rocklin, Calif.
