Assignment: Northeast Metro 916 Intermediate School District and Stillwater Area Public Schools
Internship Dates: Approximately March 5, 2012 - June 30, 2012 (with the possibility of an extension)
Internship Hours: Up to 30 hours per week (dependent upon the needs of the districts and availability of the intern)
Pay: Project End Stipend (dependent upon hours worked-approximately $2,000)

Position Detail:
The Communications Intern will be nearing completion of or a recent graduate of a university communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or other related program. The individual must demonstrate the ability to undertake basic writing assignments, posses an understanding of public relations and marketing skills, interact professionally with all stakeholders, and have overall good judgment.
Job Duties:
- Write and edit articles and columns for a variety of internal and external publication
- Assist in creating a social media presence for Northeast Metro 916
- Support social media and online content for both school districts
- Provide digital photography support
- Provide graphic design support for print and electronic publications
- Assist with general media relations (including writing and editing of media releases)
- Assist in creating an online presence beyond the district website using social media
- Track and compile media clips and media reports
- Assist with development and analysis of stakeholder surveys
- Provide administrative support
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must have completed at least two years of an accredited communications program
- Knowledge of new writing style and familiarity with a variety of communication platforms (print, Web, social media, video, etc.)
- Proficient in basic computer applications including Microsoft Office
- Familiar with professional desktop applications such as Adobe Creative Suite
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop
- Proficient in social networking tools and comfortable using the Web to communicate ideas and generate dialogues
- Proficient in AP Style and excellent command of grammar, sentence structure and spelling
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Ability to communicate to a variety of audiences, e.g. parents, general public, elected officials, staff, and outside agencies
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- HTML experience
- Working knowledge of digital photography
- Experience working with social media marketing campaigns a plus, but not required
- Prior experience working in communications

Director of Communications and Community Relations - Schools of Eastern Carver County
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Start Date: Not later than July 1, 2012 (Prefer March 1, 2012)
Responsible to: Superintendent of Schools
Supervisory Responsibilities: Community Development Specialist
Position Purpose: The Director of Communications and Community Relations provides leadership and direction for all district-wide external and internal communication. The Director ensures excellence in all publications; internal and external communications; public relations; customer service and marketing efforts. The Director provides leadership and guidance and support to the Board of Education, superintendent, and district staff in the development of key communications that promote, highlight and raise awareness about the district and building activities, events and department initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, education or related field
Experience
Three to Five years job-related experience in public relations or marketing with experience in public education preferred
Salary Range: Dependent upon qualifications and experience. Approximate range $93,000-$99,000
